Over and out – closing this blog

Our journey is turning to an end and this is the last entry in this blog.

You all know that Tilda got a pretty bad flu. We looked after her and treated her the best we could during more than a week so she should recover. She thanked us for our efforts by giving us a very special gift; her virus. So now both Vlora and I are having sore throats and feeling rather under the weather. Thank you Tilda.

Yesterday we had a nice start of the day with some final hours on the beach in Gran Canaria and a final swim in the ocean. After that I went climbing for some hours and Tilda and Vlora stayed in the apartment since Vlora was rather tired due to the flu. All and all a nice day.

Today we knew that the weather was going to be a bit bad so we decided to do some Christmas shopping and went to a couple of shopping malls. It turns out that the weather might actually be pretty severe this night and there are official warnings about a strong storm hitting the islands. The rain and thunder has started by now so lets see how the night turns out.

Tomorrow we will basically just pack our bags and prepare for the trip back home. We have reserved tables at what we hope is a very nice restaurant for a last dinner tomorrow night to finish of our wonderful and interesting time of travel.

With those final words we now close this blog. Hope you have enjoyed our photos and short texts.

Over and out.

Tilda vs flu 1-0

After 13 hours of uninterrupted sleep Tilda woke up yesterday morning without any fever. To celebrate the moment a clear sky greated us in the morning with a beautiful view over Tenerife and the peak Tejde with a snow cap.

We spent the day in Las Palmas where Tilda among other things got to play with the dog statues outside of the Cathedral and showed her skill as a future climber at a playground be climbing a delicate slab problem.

Also here in Gran Canaria the Christmas decortions are appearing and it was interesting to find the plant that we in Sweden call “Jul stjärna” growing outdoor on  on of the squares. However the palm-trees in the background effectively eliminated the Christmas feeling for us.

Today our plan was to have a beach day but the weather wanted otherwise with a grey and cloudy sky so we instead ended up with a rather slow and relaxed day not doing basically anything.

Tomorrow hopefully I will go out and climb one final time. This trip is rapidly coming to its end and we have done most of the things we wanted to do. Slowly we are mentally preparing ourselves to go back home. We are very pleased with the total outcome of our journeys and we will miss the warm weather and relaxed life in Gran Canaria but we are at the same time looking forward to go back home. We have been away for two months now and are starting to miss home.

The fight with the flu continues

Even though we get the feeling that Tilda is doing slightly better then before; the fever is less aggressive and she is whining less, she still has not recovered.  She has now had a fever for seven days and her throat is really soar. We have been to the doctor once more and luckily they still think she is in good shape and they see no indications of other infections or likewise. Just seems like a very stubborn flu. And you all know how it is; if the baby is not feeling well and not sleeping well the parents are also not sleeping well so we are starting to get a little exhausted from lack of proper sleep. We are everyday thinking that we are lucky that we are in Spain now and not in Cuba. With this happening in Cuba we would probably be really anxouis and desperate by now, but here in Spain it is of course a bit worrying and we are getting a little bit fed up with it, but it still fells very manageable.

The weather is still really good with nice sunny days and warm temperatures. Yesterday we did a small excursion to Roque Nubo, a very spectacular formation high up in the mountains. Just the drive there was a spectacular adventure on really small and winding mountain roads. Vlora did part of the driving, which was a new experience for her and kind-of outside of her comfort zone.

Once we arrived at the formation it turned out to be very spectacular, actually with a team of climbers fighting their way to the summit on the highest of the two towers.

Today I got the privilegie to once more go climbing. I went to the national park “Tamadaba” on the northern side of the island and had a very nice climbing day.

It was not only nice climbing but also the nature in the park is beautiful with some spectacular  views.

Again the drive there was very spectacular on amazing mountain roads. Meanwhile Vlora and Tilda had a relaxed day in Amadores with a few hours on the beach.

As the sun is setting over the ocean with an amazing view from our balcony we have now put a very tired Tilda to bed and depending on how she is doing tomorrow we might go to Las Palmas or we stay at home in the flat.
